College Work Study/College Employment
Introduction:
A student at Marist can either be employed under our Federal Work Study Program or our Campus Employment Program. View all available on-campus jobs
Federal Work Study(FWS)
Federal Work Study is a need-based, financial aid program. Students eligible for work-study are those who have applied for aid and have been awarded a work study allocation. Unlike other financial aid programs that are credited directly to a student's account, CWS must be earned through working on campus. Currently, there are several offices on campus employing students through community service work. We encourage our students to accept community service work and jobs related to their course of study, whenever possible. The student will receive a bi-weekly paycheck based on hours worked. Your work study allocation and rate of pay will determine the number of hours you will be allowed to work.
The Job Fair
A Job Fair is held in September for all incoming freshmen and transfer students awarded CWS. Any other upperclassmen who may need to attend the job fair should request admittance from the Student Employment Director.
Many departments on campus are represented at the job fair and are ready to hire work-study candidates. This event is communicated to the students through a summer mailing.
The first 2 weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters are reserved for hiring work-study students ONLY, unless special circumstances exist.
During the year, the Office of Student Financial Services will post any available on-campus positions on the bulletin board outside the office and also on the web site.
A student may also be hired directly by the departments that are seeking student employees.
Campus Employment(CE)
Campus employment allows students, regardless of financial need, the opportunity to work on campus. Students who have special skills, or experience (ex. Computer skills, lifeguards) or work schedules that certain positions on campus require, may be hired at any time. After the 2 week period for work study hire only, (beginning of Fall and Spring semesters), ALL students are eligible to apply for available jobs.
* All graduate and international students are hired through campus employment
Stipends
- A stipend authorization form is required for all students not receiving an hourly rate.
- Students being paid by a stipend are not required to fill out hourly time sheets from the payroll office. However, it is recommended that supervisors verify daily activities via a department log sheet to ensure they are working each week since they are automatically paid via the system.
- Student receiving a stipend will be paid every other Friday (see student payroll schedule) based on the dates of employment of their stipend.
- Should the student's employment terminate prior to the stipend end date, the supervisor must notify the Office of Student Employment via email. Please cc Patricia.Peabody@marist.edu.
