Experts from Around the Country Meet to Take on Big Tech Topics
Enterprise Computing Industry and Academic Experts from across the country came to campus for the 15th Annual Enterprise Computing Community Conference to take on hot tech topics like artificial intelligence (AI), ChatGPT, virtual realities, cybersecurity, and other emerging themes in the world of enterprise computing.
Catch me up: The conference was a place for enterprise computing professionals from leading educational institutions and tech companies to network, present research, learn from expert speakers and panelists, and address the national skills shortage in large systems technology.
An unknown future rolls toward us: One leading conversation was about artificial intelligence 鈥 a fast-evolving technology that continues to impact many industries and move into uncharted tech territory. The event brought experts together to discuss the ethical uses and implications of AI and large-language model software like ChatGPT.
A surprise celebration: Dr. Roger Norton, former Dean of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, was the principal investigator of the National Science Foundation grant, which led to the creation of the conference. Dr. Norton was presented with the Pioneer Award for his innovative contributions to the industry and for championing the creation of the conference.
Poughkeepsie Pride Parade
Proud in Poughkeepsie: Members of Marist鈥檚 LGBTQ+ community gathered with allies and other local supporters to march in the Annual Poughkeepsie Pride Parade. The parade, which began in 2019, celebrates diversity and promotes acceptance and equality.
Quick History Lesson: June is Pride Month because it commemorates the Stonewall uprising, which began on June 28, 1969, and served as a pivotal event in the LGBTQ+ rights movement that galvanized political activism in the community for decades to come.
Marist was a sponsor of the 2023 Pride Parade, which is hosted by the nonprofit, . Marist parade-goers in festive attire marched through the streets behind a Marist rainbow pride flag with Frankie the Fox by their side.
Powerful, Peaceful, Purposeful: A welcoming and lively community event, the parade aimed to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights and issues and serve as a safe space for everyone to be celebrated, respected, and embraced.
