The Long Reach Society: History In The Making 

The Long Reach Society was founded upon the collaborative partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and Marist. With the wealth of resources provided through Marist鈥檚 Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (GLI) Scholarship and the rich history of the Hudson River Valley region, first-year history enthusiasts have access to immense resources needed to succeed on their academic journey. The Long Reach Society connects GLI Scholarship recipients with unique and enriching educational opportunities to further their knowledge & understanding of American history, and prepare them for successful careers.

A Partnership for the History Books

The Long Reach Society, named after Marist's proximity to the historic Hudson River's "long reach," joins Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (GLI) scholars and other select students studying the humanities together to form a collaborative, connected society. Members are individually mentored by the Dean & select faculty members from the School of Liberal Arts, and have unique enrichment and experiential learning opportunities through Marist's Centers for Excellence including the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership, , and , and our partnerships with and .

GLI's vast network of resources & primary resources includes historical documents, online exhibits, videos, essays and much more. Through this collaboration with Marist and GLI, and the formation of the Long Reach Society, our GLI scholars have a transformative educational experience, and be prepared for the "long reach" of their future.

GLI Scholarship for First-Year Students with a Passion for History

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (GLI) Scholarship at 蜜月直播 is awarded to students from who demonstrate exceptional achievement in the study of history. This scholarship is designed to give majors with a passion for history the opportunity and freedom to pursue exciting undergraduate research and apply it to their future careers. All incoming first-year students, with an interest in history are eligible for one of four scholarship opportunities, and we encourage all who fit this criteria to apply and make a difference with their history degree from Marist.

Meet the Faculty Advisor: Dr. Robyn Rosen

Dr. Robyn Rosen serves as the faculty advisor to students who are a part of the Long Reach Society. She works directly with our Gilder Lehrman Institute history scholars to pursue research and participate in unique experiences that enhance our scholars' experience at Marist. A specialist in U.S. women鈥檚 history, she鈥檚 also served as a faculty leader for the Racial Justice in the South Spring Attachment, a week-long trip where students get first-hand experience with crucial sites in the struggle for civil rights, including the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the Dexter Avenue Church, and the Emmett Till Interpretive Center.

The Long Reach Society builds community among scholarship recipients while nurturing their passion for United States history and politics by giving them access to enriched experiences outside the classroom.

These have included:

  • Hamilton on Broadway
  • Weekend in Gettysburg at battlefields and museum
  • Day trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
  • Public Services Career Trip to Washington D.C.
  • Access to Gilder Lehrman Institute in NYC- including paid internship opportunities
  • FDR Presidential Museum and Library
  • Dinners with distinguished lecturers

Scholars also benefit from a wide variety of programs offered by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, a top national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge and understanding of American history.

Connect to the Past in the Present at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum

Conveniently located approximately five miles from the Marist campus, the College hosts the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library鈥檚 digital archives, making Marist one of only six colleges or universities in the nation affiliated with a Presidential Library. Administered by the National Archives and Records Administration since 1941, the Library preserves and makes accessible to the American people the records of FDR's Presidency. The FDR Presidential Library and Museum's mission is to foster a deeper understanding of the lives and times of the Roosevelt family, and their continuing impact on contemporary life. Through this shared partnership with 蜜月直播, the Long Reach Society students have access to important historical records, and opportunities to participate in the Library's programming and internships.
