Gain Real-World Skills with the Public Relations Concentration
The Public Relations concentration of the Communication major is geared toward our students who are interested in careers in Public Relations and related fields, resulting in career paths from Social Media Specialists to Corporate Communication Directors. Our program combines essential learnings that introduce and hone skills in courses like Campaign Management, Public Relations Writing Tools, Advanced Strategic Storytelling, Research & Analytics, among others. By studying both the principles and practice of the industry, you鈥檒l have a competitive edge when you enter the field after graduation.

Practice Public Relations In the Classroom
The Public Relations curriculum prepares you for careers in a variety of fields related to corporate, nonprofit, public affairs, and social media. The courses offer hands-on experience as you learn about theory, research, and practice. Upon completion of the coursework, you'll will have a deeper understanding of media relations, social media, ethics, crisis communication, and campaign strategy. Unique to Marist鈥檚 Public Relations curriculum is our continued work with local businesses who often serve as real clients in courses. You'll be able to work directly with these clients to build materials specific to their needs.
Build The Skills Necessary To Succeed
Public Presentation
Develop skill and confidence in public presentation environments, from running meetings to presenting at national student competitions.
Real-World Experience
You will have the opportunity to work with real clients in a variety of courses but also through internship opportunities and student-run agency work. There are a number of ways to get involved in public relations outside of the classroom.
Strategic Thinking
You will apply steps to analyze, research, execute and evaluate public relations campaigns using valuable insight and creative thinking.
Campaign Management
You will apply elements of research and client relations to successfully see campaigns through from concept to creation.
Data Research & Application
You will apply a variety of research methods to find insight into identifying issues and engaging in problem solving, to preventing and managing crises, to making organizations responsive and responsible to their publics, among others.
Writing for the Media
You will research all aspects of the media landscape and understand the value of media relations. You will create press materials such as press releases, pitches, media alerts and more.
