Dr. Peter M. del Rosario
Associate Professor, Psychology and Counselor Educator, MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program
Bio
Born in the Philippines, Peter del Rosario grew up in upstate New York where he faced the challenges of growing up being one of the few non-white individuals in his community. The experience of being different from others significantly influenced the development of his lifelong fascination with human behavior 鈥 particularly with issues of race, ethnicity, cultural identity development, and multicultural counseling. Currently, Dr. del Rosario is an associate professor and counselor educator in the MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, which he directs. He is also an experienced NY licensed psychologist. He is the recipient of the 2016 Board of Trustees鈥 Faculty Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Dr. del Rosario鈥檚 teaching, research, and practice interests involve a commitment providing the knowledge and skills needed for individuals to better understand themselves as cultural beings and understand others who are different from themselves. As a counselor educator, he is dedicated to training the next generation of licensed professional counselors to help prevent, and promote recovery from, the psychological damage resulting from socially oppressive forces. In his research work, he collaborates with small groups of undergraduate and graduate students on projects involving diversity issues and professional counseling training standards. Faculty-student research works are presented at state, regional, and national conferences associated primarily with the American Counseling Association and its divisions.
