Dr. Hatzis is a Latinx social work clinician, educator, researcher, and activist, serving as the Assistant Director of Counseling Services. Dr. Hatzis has had the privilege of practicing across varied settings, including private, not-for-profit, and international contexts addressing a range of social issues. She has worked with families, veterans, communities, and individuals impacted by trauma. Her approach to practice is aimed at being collaborative, client-centered and trauma-informed. Dr. Hatzis' positions of leadership and influence include serving as the director of the Sanctuary Project, an agency serving runaway and homeless youth, on Long Island. Within the university context, she has taught research methods, policy and advanced practice courses to MSW students within the School of Social Work at Adelphi University. In addition, she has assisted on the development of social work curriculum, and Title IX training and evaluation initiatives through committee. Dr. Hatzis is a Social Work Practice Fellow, and is actively involved with the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs. Her self-care includes, attending jazz festivals, cooking for family and friends, and analyzing social commentary in horror films.
