Extensive Clinical Experience Develops Students for Careers in Athletic Training
In the Athletic Training program at Marist, we believe that a strong clinical field experience is essential to career preparedness. That is why you鈥檒l complete nine clinical rotations including four consecutive five-week fully immersive rotations that will maximize student exposure to clinical practice under the supervision of experienced, certified and licensed health care providers. With a variety of high schools, colleges, and sport and physical therapy centers, as well as our own Sports Medicine Facility with full-time certified athletic trainers, we鈥檒l work with you to ensure that the experience you receive is best suited to your future goals in athletic training.
State-of-the-Art Athletic Training Facilities
Along with the extensive clinical experience you鈥檒l receive in Marist鈥檚 program, you鈥檒l also have access to some of the top technology in sports medicine. This includes top-of-the-line lab space like our gross anatomy lab and research labs, as well as our cutting-edge Movement Analysis Lab, which is one of only three in the tri-state area. With multiple facilities at your disposal, including the McCann Recreation Center, Marist Athletic Training Facility, and Science and Allied Health Building, the campus is bursting with opportunities for hands-on Athletic Training experience.
Immersive Athletic Training Clinical Education and Experiences
Athletic training students put classroom theory into practice by completing clinical experiences in the surrounding area. Athletic training students are required to complete seven clinical rotations, including four consecutive five-week rotations at local high schools, colleges, and clinics. These experiential learning opportunities are completed under the supervision of assigned clinical preceptors who are certified athletic trainers or other licensed health care professionals. Marist's Athletic Training program is accredited by and fully meets all of the accreditation standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and is registered with the New York State Education Department as a licensure-qualifying degree program.
