Endowed Scholarships
In addition to general Marist Admission scholarships that are available to all students, science majors may be eligible for the following special endowed scholarships, which are only students majoring in a School of Science program:
In addition to general Marist Admissions scholarships that are available to all students, science majors may be eligible for the following special endowed scholarships, which are only available students majoring in a School of Science program. NOTE that not all scholarships are available every academic year if their funding has already been awarded to an existing student.
The Brother Donald J. Kelly, FMS 鈥65 Memorial Scholarship has been established at Marist University as a lasting tribute to this special man and devoted teacher. Brother Don was a Marist Brother for 54 years who lived the order鈥檚 ideal of 鈥淒o good quietly鈥 and a Marist graduate who served his alma mater proudly as a mathematics professor for 32 years. This scholarship is awarded to traditional age students entering their junior or senior year of study and majoring in biology or biomedical sciences. Applicants must be academically strong and show a commitment to service as epitomized by Brother Don and the Marist Brothers. Financial need is considered but is not a deciding factor.
The Dorothy A. Willis 鈥68 Science Scholarship is intended to support undergraduate third-year students with demonstrated financial need majoring in biology, chemistry, or medical technology.
The Dr. Aleski A. Leonidoff Scholarship is awarded to science majors with demonstrated financial need who plan to specialize in scientific or pre-medical studies.
The Dr. Andrew A. Molloy Scholarship in Chemistry was founded in honor of a former Academic Vice President, Science Division Chair, and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry. The scholarship is awarded annually to a rising sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in chemistry or biochemistry who reflects Dr. Molloy鈥檚 commitment to academic excellence, passion for science, and efforts to make the world a better place. This scholarship was established by Dr. Molloy鈥檚 wife, Rosemary, and supported by his family and many former students, colleagues, and friends.
The Dr. Frank A. and Claire D. Gagan Memorial Scholarship is named for the former team physician for Marist's athletic program. It is awarded annually to upper-class students majoring in a program offered by the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Athletic Training, and is based upon academic achievement and financial need.
The Dr. George B. Hooper Scholarship is named after Professor Emeritus of Biology Dr. George B. Hooper, who also served as the Chair of the Division of Science for many years. The scholarship is awarded to students based upon general academic merit and demonstrated ability in the field of science.
The John E. Tessieri Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry was established by the university with a gift from the estate of Dr. Tessieri, a long-time trustee and former chairman of the Marist University Board. A distinguished chemist and prominent community leader, Dr. Tessieri strongly believed in the importance of education and Marist鈥檚 mission. This scholarship is awarded to full-time traditional undergraduate students majoring in chemistry or biochemistry, and the recipient must show outstanding academic and leadership qualities.
The Dr. Joseph Bettancourt Scholarship was been established in honor of Dr. Bettancourt upon his retirement in 2015, by his former colleagues and students to recognize his 50 years of dedicated service to the University. Dr. Bettancourt had a long and distinguished career as a biology professor, and his commitment to teaching will love on through the thousands of students he taught, mentored, and advised. This scholarship will perpetuate his legacy and be awarded annually to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Biology or Biomedical Sciences. Recipient must be academically strong and have documented financial need.
The Kerry Rose Fitzsimons Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of a member of the Class of 2012. The Kerry Rose Fitzsimons Memorial Scholarship has been established at Marist University to provide financial assistance to full-time undergraduate students majoring in the School of Science. Kerry was a well-rounded young woman with a passion for medicine, marine biology, music, and sports. While at Marist, Kerry majored in biomedical sciences with a chemistry minor. Applicants should be academically strong and excel in the sciences.
The Mary Lou Gantert Scholarship is named for a former Marist science student and is awarded to a current science student who possesses superior academic potential.
The NSF S-Stem Scholarship and the Gateway to Success program will increase STEM degree completion among high-achieving undergraduate transfer students with significant financial need. It includes strong mentoring and career planning support, while fostering a sense of belonging to both the campus and community and adding to the professional formation of students鈥 science identities.
