- CPCE stands for Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Exam, which is administered by the Center for Credentialing and Education. This is a master’s program exam designed to measure a student’s mastery of the requisite knowledge and skills identified by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and other Educational Professions for the preparation of professional counselors. Marist started requiring the CPCE exam for graduation in 2018.
- The licensure exam required to become a licensed mental health counselor in NY is the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Exam, which is administered by the National Board of Certified Counselors. It is required to obtain licensure in many states and it is a requirement to become a certified clinical mental health counselor in all states.
- This data point is incomplete as some graduates have not yet taken the licensing exam. The data available for licensure pass rates is variable because the date when graduates take the exam is variable. Both the NY State Office of Professions for the Mental Health Professions and the New York Mental Health Counselor Association have recommended that individuals attempt to take the exam about one year after they graduate and have been employed with a limited permit as a professional counselor under supervision.
- The Job or Doctoral Program Placement Rate is based on the time range of 12 months from the date of graduation. It should be noted that usually 80-85% of graduates gain employment within 3 months of graduation.
